Solutions

Boiler inspection
Drone boiler inspection is our most popular service. Achieve shorter downtime, big economical savings and increased safety.

Flue gas channels
We inspect flue gas channels with drones. Avoid scaffolding during condition assessment and use drone inspection.

Compensators
We perform visual and thermal drone inspection of operationally critical and hard-to-reach compensators in a facility.

Chimney
We can perform internal chimney inspections in cores as small as diameter 500. We also do exterior chimney inspections with drones.

Why use drone inspection in power plants?
Drone inspection in power plants, CHP plants and incinerators is an innovative inspection solution. We use our custom-designed drone, Elios 3, which is equipped with a safety grid, full LED lighting, 4K camera and a LiDAR laser scanner. This combination allows our professional drone operators to easily, quickly and safely navigate around boilers, large furnaces, superheaters, flues, scrubbers, chimneys and more.
The benefits of using our drone over manual inspections are first and foremost increased safety. We can carry out inspections from a safe distance, avoiding dangerous situations where humans would otherwise have to step in. In addition, significant savings on scaffolding setup and reduced downtime can be achieved.
We typically perform inspections and safety screenings of boilers right after shutdown for overhaul. This provides a quick overview of potential slag fallout risks before workers enter the boiler. In addition, our inspections provide accurate insight into the condition of the boiler and help optimize the planning and execution of the audit work.

Inspection report with 3D model as reference
We deliver our inspection data as a virtual report with a 3D model as a reference. By combining high-resolution drone footage with a 3D point cloud generated during the flight, we can show exactly where in the model the drone has moved.
As a customer at Drone Eksperten, you get access to our software where you can navigate around the 3D model and follow the drone’s route through your facility. This innovative mapping provides a clear overview of damage and other critical points, making it easier to prioritize efforts and minimize scaffolding costs.
Drone inspection in CHP and incineration plants is an effective solution to optimize and modernize the approach to auditing and operations – faster, cheaper and safer.

How we do drone inspection in CHP plants
Whether it’s an urgent matter or an annual audit, planning is the key to success when it comes to drone inspections of CHP and incineration plants. Urgent cases often require a faster response, while annual audits allow more time for preparation. However, one thing we have learned from the industry is to always be adaptable – and we guarantee that at Drone Eksperten.
The process is simple. When we are contacted with a request for an inspection, we ask a series of questions about access, draught, dust, risk assessment and your desired output from the inspection. When we arrive on-site, our drone operator is thoroughly briefed on your facility and needs, ensuring a smooth and efficient inspection.
After the inspection, we typically deliver a video combined with a point cloud (3D model) that makes it possible to see where in your facility the drone has flown. This way, we can map damage and other points of interest with high precision.

Frequently asked questions
What does a drone inspection cost?
The price depends on the scope and complexity of the job, which is why we always offer a tailored quote based on the project.
How long does an inspection take?
Most inspections of individual elements of a facility can be completed in 0.5-2 hours, depending on the size of the job. Inspections of multiple parts of a facility take anywhere from half a day to a full day.
Can the inspection be performed while the system is in operation?
Yes and no. We cannot fly into boilers, flues, chimneys etc. while the plant is in operation. However, we can still fly out in the production hall and do both thermal inspection and look at compensators, which actually makes a lot of sense during operation.
What kind of data do you provide after the inspection?
We deliver interactive reports with video, 3D point clouds, PDF documents and possibly 3D models.
Are drone inspections of a power plant safe?
Yes, our drones eliminate the need for dangerous manual inspections in confined and hazardous areas.
Can you also help with data interpretation?
Yes, we offer a video walkthrough of the data we have collected, where we go through the reports and help you understand the results.
